What's involved with the handgun qualification?

The handgun proficiency course consists of firing a total of 50 rounds of ammunition into a B-27 target.  The minimum qualifying score for a CHL is 175 out of a possible 250 points (70%).

You will be firing 50 rounds of ammunition from the following 3 distances:

3 yard line you will shoot, 20 rounds
•1 shot, 2 seconds, 5 times
•2 shots, 3 seconds, 5 times
•5 shots, 10 seconds, 1 time

7 yard line you will shoot, 20 rounds
•5 shots, 10 seconds, 1 time
•2 shots, 4 seconds, 1 time
•3 shots, 6 seconds, 1 time
•1 shot, 3 seconds, 5 times
•5 shots, 15 seconds, 1 time

15 yard line you will shoot, 10 rounds
•2 shots, 6 seconds, 1 time
•3 shots, 9 seconds, 1 time
•5 shots, 15 seconds, 1 time

Scoring

The B-27 target has several scoring rings. 

The 8,9 and 10 rings (X) are worth 5 points.

If your bullets hit within the 7 ring it is worth 4 points.

If your bullets hit outside of the 7 ring but on the target it is worth 3 points. 

What to bring to the range:

1.Eye protection
2.Ear protection (cover ears)
3.Base ball cap
4.Proper footwear
5.Handguns*
6.Ammunition 50 rounds** (One Day)
   Ammunition 200 rounds** (Two Day)
7.Shirt with a collar

*If you qualify with a semi-automatic (SA) you will be licensed to carry any type of handgun.  If you qualify with a revolver (NSA) you will only be licensed to carry a revolver.
